Introduction

Welcome!

You are viewing the first installment of a new concept for documentation at Lambda International.

A series of simple, function-specific, non-technical guidebooks designed for busy people with business to take care of quickly. People who like to THINK and make their computers do the WORK!

Does this sound like you?

The "A Gentle Introduction" series was developed in response to your requests for easy, "just get me started, fast!" instructions.

These booklets are not meant to replace your larger manuals - but to clarify advanced functions that are commonly avoided due to the complexity.

After you have mastered the basic techniques in the Gentle guide, you should feel adequately comfortable to proceed to the manuals for obtaining more sophisticated results.

Guide Format

Gentle Format manuals all follow the same format. Each page presents one idea. Each page will include a screen print when appropriate. Each step you are required to perform is explained in non-technical terms.

Navigation

You can go through each step sequentially by reading a page, then clicking on the "Next" gold-color navigator button. You can return to the top of the current page by clicking on the "BACK" gold-color navigator button. Or, you can fast-path by using the Table of Contents on the left-hand side.

This guide was inspired by:

  • Dr. John O'Banion who teaches the theory that most anything can be reduced to a list or story.
  • Use Mail Merge for anything that would benefit from a "list" (Data Source) and a "story" (Main Document).

  • Dr. Fred Kohun who believes that if a system is "useful" it will be successful.
  • You will find Mail Merge very useful.

  • Dr. Packy Laverty who lectures that learning anything electronic will help you make lots of money.
  • We can't promise you'll get a raise, but you will be more productive.

  • Dr. Robert J. Skovira who stresses that information systems must include the human factor.
  • We hope this guide "humanizes" Mail Merge for you.
